In simple language, cataract is blurring of theimage.A Cataract is caused by the build-up of protein around the
eyes Len’s. It is a common eye problem faced after the age of 50.
Scientifically speaking a cataract is theformation
of a thin cloud-like layer on the lens of
the eye, due to which vision gets blurred and in some cases vision loss beyond
repair or which cannot be corrected with the help of glasses.
It sounds frightening, isn't it? But with research in this field,
doctors have come up with LASER CATARACT SURGERY which helps in
restoring the lost vision as well as the dependency on contact lenses or
glasses too.
Fortunately, the modern
scientific advancement has made cataract surgery very easy. With the development of LASER CATARACT SURGERY, the success rate and effectiveness
of cataract operations have increased.
It is estimated that every year around 2-3 million CATARACT SURGERIES are conducted in MALAYSIA.
Laser cataract surgery is also
termed as laser-assisted cataract surgery. In common man'slanguage, a camera with an
ultrasound imaging device is placed over the eye to gather the exact
position and density of the cataract in the eye lens. The camera is connected
to a computer which guides the doctor on where and how long the incision should
be to remove the cataract, the rays from the device are also used to soften the
protein layer incase its hard. The next
step is to break the lens into thepiece
and suck them out of the eye. Then an artificial lens referred as an
intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted that performs the same action of the
original eye lens.
Usually,
no stitches are required in this process. The whole process takes around 20-30
minutes to complete. Compared to the traditional process, the recovery time is
also very less, often vision is gained within few hours of the surgery.
Very nice article. you just need to consult with Dr Nrinder Mehta at Guru Nanak Vision Therapy centre. this is a reported centre for cataract surgery in India.
