Why You Should Consider a Laser Surgery For Cataract?

With age and sometimes due to an accident, there could be problem in the vision of a person. In order to get the vision corrected, there are many types of surgeries available today. One of the most common type of surgery is LASIK surgery.

LASIK surgery has become even safer with the advancement in the laser technology. The precision with which a problem in the eye can be corrected with laser surgery is phenomenal and is also helping in getting cataracts removed.

Advancement in cataract surgery

The various steps in a laser cataract surgery are:
•    Corneal incision
•    Anterior capsulotomy
•    Lens and cataract fragmentation

However, in order to perform these steps, especially the first one, there are two methods. One method uses blades and the other does not. The traditional cataract surgery does involve a blade as it uses an instrument called microkeratome to cut a thin, hinged flap in the cornea. This freshly cut flap is then lifted off to apply laser energy which helps in reshaping the eye for getting a corrected vision.

While this method is also effective, there are many hospitals which are going for the no blade cataract Malaysia offers. The innovative method creates a LASIK flap with the help of high-energy laser, known as the femtosecond laser. This laser is used in order to correct the vision of the patients instead of a blade.

The debate on whether the former method should be employed rather than the innovative bladeless cataract correction method is still on. Many specialists feel that the former method makes the entire procedure smoother and faster. The procedure involving microkeratome involves suction which lasts around 3 seconds while on the other hand, the suction in a bladeless surgery lasts 15-20 seconds. This difference in time makes the former procedure easier on the patient.

The creation of the flaps in the bladeless surgical method is much easier and this is why some specialists prefer the latter. Which cataract surgery will be beneficial to you depends on your condition and the diagnosis of your doctor.
